Baseball Game Preview: Tolsia Rebels vs. St. Joseph Central Irish

Tolsia is 1-7 against St. Joseph Central since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Rebels will venture away from home to face off against the Irish at 5:30 p.m. Tolsia has given up an average of 13 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tolsia is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Saturday. They lost 21-11 to Poca.

Luke Williamson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Tolsia's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-8 when he doesn't). Gage Williamson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, St. Joseph Central had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 9-0 shutout. The Irish might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Mason Watts, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Kellar, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

St. Joseph Central hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

St. Joseph Central pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Tolsia, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tolsia has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Joseph Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Tolsia might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from St. Joseph Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Rebels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
