Softball Recap: Norte Vista Takes a Loss

Norte Vista extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-13-1 in the process. They came up short against the Ramona Rams, falling 21-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Rams this season, with their most recent defeat being a 27-0 loss on Tuesday.

As for Ramona, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games.

For Ramona's part, Kaytlin Stephens made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Stephens has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mia Guzman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four doubles, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Gonzalez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Norte Vista wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 16-6 defeat against Rubidoux on the 22nd. As for Ramona, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-0 win against Jurupa Valley on the 22nd.
