Soccer Recap: Athens Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked Chenango Valley

The Athens Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Chenango Valley Warriors on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Athens' disadvantage in MaxPreps' soccer rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 238th in Pennsylvania, while Chenango Valley are ranked 99th in New York).

The win got Athens back to even at 6-6. As for Chenango Valley, with the defeat, they broke their three-match winning streak and moved their record to 7-3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Athens will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bloomsburg at 11:00 a.m. on the 18th. As for Chenango Valley, they will challenge Susquehanna Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
