Preview: Bountiful RedHawks vs. Springville Red Devils
The Bountiful RedHawks will head out on the road to face off against the Springville Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Bountiful sitting on three straight victories and Springville on six.
Last Friday, Bountiful got themselves on the board against Granger, but Granger never followed suit. They breezed by the Lancers on the road to the tune of 42-0. Considering Bountiful has won four matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Siaki Fekitoa was on fire: he rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Fekitoa was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Another player making a difference was Emerson Geilman, who rushed for seven yards and a touchdown.
Bountiful's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. Leading the way was Joshua Liljenquist and his three sacks.
Meanwhile, Springville can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 24-0 margin over East.
Springville relied on the efforts of Lisiate Valeti, who rushed for 28 yards and a touchdown, and Tevita Valeti, who rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Valeti hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for 11 straight games.
Bountiful's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.5 points per game. As for Springville, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Bountiful has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 147.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Springville struggles in that department as they've been even better at 217.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Bountiful and Springville were almost perfectly matched up in their previous meeting back in August of 2022, but Bountiful suffered an agonizing 18-17 loss. Can Bountiful avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
