Basketball Game Preview: Lyons Lions vs. St. Laurence Vikings

The Lyons Lions will take on the St. Laurence Vikings in a tournament on Thursday.

Lyons is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Oak Lawn just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a hard 55-37 fall against the Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 371st, while the Spartans are ranked 121st).

Meanwhile, St. Laurence had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.2 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They came out on top against the Friars by a score of 60-48.

St. Laurence pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Lyons, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Everything came up roses for Lyons against St. Laurence when the teams last played back in December of 2019, as the squad secured an 83-51 victory. Does Lyons have another victory up their sleeve, or will St. Laurence turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
