Softball Preview: Egyptian Pharaohs vs. Century Centurions
Egyptian is 0-10 against Century since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Egyptian Pharaohs will head out on the road to take on the Century Centurions at 4:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Egyptian sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over Meridian. The win made it back-to-back victories for Egyptian.
Rachel Kaufman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Abrianna Woodson was excellent, going 4-for-4 with two stolen bases and a double. Another player making a difference was Hallie Huffman, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Century entered their tilt with Dongola with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Demons onto the board and left with an 8-0 win on Tuesday. Century might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won three matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Not much got past Ashton Dillow, who gave up just two hits to keep Dongola off the board.
On the hitting side, Hayden Anderson was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Karleigh Jones, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Egyptian's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-6. As for Century, their record is now 4-5.
