Baseball Game Preview: Creswell Bulldogs vs. La Pine Hawks

Creswell is 0-10 against La Pine since April of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Creswell took a 14-run loss the last time they faced off against Pleasant Hill, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Billies 12-10. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Pine). They were the clear victors by a 17-5 margin over Elmira on Friday. Considering the Hawks have won four matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Dylan Newton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because La Pine is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-5 otherwise. Newton was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, La Pine let Davey Taylor and Shaye Johnson run wild. Taylor went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Johnson got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave Taylor a new career-high. Elijah Sparrow also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

La Pine's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6. As for Creswell, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
