Softball Game Preview: Brownstown Central Braves vs. Madison Cubs

The Brownstown Central Braves are taking a road trip to take on the Madison Cubs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Brownstown Central had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Henryville on Monday. The Braves were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Hornets. The victory continues a trend for the Braves in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won four in a row.

Shyla Steele looked comfortable as she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Olivia Justice was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted over her last 11 contests. Brooke Meahl was another key player, going 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

Brownstown Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Madison waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 13-0 shutout.

Madison now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Brownstown Central, their record is now 6-7.

Brownstown Central was able to grind out a solid win over Madison when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 15-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Braves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
