The Eldred Yellowjackets will face off against the Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Eldred is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 56-22 win over Unatego/Franklin. The victory was nothing new for the Yellowjackets as they're now sitting on six straight.
Koen McGill was his usual excellent self, rushing for 130 yards and two scores while picking up 7.2 yards per carry, and also throwing for 257 yards and three touchdowns. He didn't just play on offense: he also made nine total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Eldred's leading receiver Connor Ranaudo was McGill's top target yet again, picking up 82 receiving yards, while also rushing for 112 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Eldred was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 311 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 174 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.
Another reason for the win was Eldred's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Trai Kaufmann and James Deyermond, who racked up all five sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Morrisville-Eaton blew past Taconic Hills, posting a 56-21 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Mavericks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked first, while the Titans are ranked 102nd).
Eldred better keep an eye on Mason Marland. He was instrumental in Morrisville-Eaton's win, picking up 94 receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 57 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries. Those 94 receiving yards gave Marland a new career-high.
Eldred's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Morrisville-Eaton, their win bumped their record up to an identical 10-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Eldred has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 221.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Morrisville-Eaton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 309.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
