Softball Recap: Carrollton Takes a Loss

Carrollton had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-6 to make it 12. They lost 15-0 to the Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cavaliers of the 10-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Michigan Lutheran Seminary, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

For Michigan Lutheran Seminary's part, Kerin Gardner was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Gardner has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Grace Steiger and Emily Laupichler did most of the damage at the plate: Steiger went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs, while Laupichler got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three RBI gave Steiger a new career-high. Charli Alcorn was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Michigan Lutheran Seminary beat Carrollton by a score of 14-3 later that day.
