Preview: Freeland Falcons vs. Goodrich Martians
Freeland has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against The Goodrich Martians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Freeland humbled Lake Fenton with a 40-13 victory. Freeland pushed the score to 40-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Lake Fenton cut but never quite recovered from.
Among those leading the charge was Sam Talaga, who rushed for 79 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Talaga is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last nine games he's played. Freeland also got a significant boost from Ty Fournier, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 91 yards.
Meanwhile, Goodrich entered their tilt with Brandon with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Goodrich simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Brandon 35-6 at home. Given Goodrich's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Brandon is ranked 184th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 9-1.
Freeland and Goodrich were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, but Freeland came up empty-handed after a 10-9 defeat. Can Freeland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
