Basketball Recap: Carl Hayden Community Comes Up Short

Carl Hayden Community lost against Fairfax back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Carl Hayden Community Falcons were dealt a 69-20 defeat at the hands of the Fairfax Stampede. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Carl Hayden Community saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lillielani Lockett almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. That was a full 60% of Carl Hayden Community's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Leading Fairfax to victory were Jaelynn Harvey and Mayega Enow. Harvey went 8 for 14 en route to 23 points and four steals, while Enow went 9 of 16 on her way to 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Harvey a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Mel Romero, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Carl Hayden Community's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Fairfax, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-8.

Carl Hayden Community wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 44-37 victory against Metro Tech on the 23rd. Fairfax has also already played their next contest, a 60-29 win against Youngker on the 23rd.
