Volleyball Recap: Campbell Lunsford and Abby Johns Secure Win for George Washington

George Washington won the last time they faced Capital, and Natali Tomblin did her part to make sure it happened again. The Patriots won by a set and slipped past the Cougars 2-1 thanks in part to Tomblin, who had 16 digs and six aces. She is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last three games she's played.

George Washington had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-22, 25-18.

Leading George Washington to victory were Abby Johns and Campbell Lunsford. Johns had 13 digs and two aces, while Lunsford had six digs. Those six digs gave Lunsford a new career-high.

They weren't the only good server: George Washington was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in three consecutive matches.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-3-1. As for Capital, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, George Washington and Winfield will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Capital, they will head out to face off against Wayne at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
