Basketball Recap: Sky Lopez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Brackenridge over Sam Houston

Brackenridge lost against Sam Houston back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Brackenridge Eagles received a blow as they fell 57-38 to the Sam Houston Hurricanes. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 689th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 162nd).

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sky Lopez, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Lopez has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last six times she's played. Ashlynn Cortinas was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Brackenridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sam Houston to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brenna Davis, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Faira Starks, who had 14 points.

Brackenridge now has a losing record at 12-13. As for Sam Houston, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Fox Tech the next time they take the court. Brackenridge will head out to face Fox Tech at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Sam Houston will host them at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
