Baseball Recap: Capital Takes a Loss

Capital extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 13-6 in the process. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bellarmine Prep Lions. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Lions from their previous meeting back in April of 2015.

As for Bellarmine Prep, their record now sits at 7-9. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

For Bellarmine Prep's part, Dolan Wynne made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Wynne also tossed a walk, which is notable because Bellarmine Prep is 4-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-7 otherwise. Wynne was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Xavier Espindola, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Aaron Barnhart was another key player, earning two RBI and one run.

Coming up, Capital will be playing at home against Lakes at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bellarmine Prep, they will challenge Mount Tahoma at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions are facing the T-Birds at the right time seeing as the T-Birds are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
