Basketball Game Preview: South Cougars vs. Derby Panthers

South hasn't had much luck against Derby recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars duke it out with the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, South beat Valley Center 52-46. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Meanwhile, Derby beat Maize South 80-67 on Friday. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Mavericks are ranked 99th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Derby found their leader in sophomore Avant Riley, who went 10-for-14 to rack up 25 points in addition to five assists and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Riley has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Ulwelling, who posted 20 points.

Derby's win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-1. As for South, their victory bumped their record up to 7-11.
