Basketball Recap: AJ Grate's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Waccamaw over Loris

Waccamaw lost against Loris back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Waccamaw Warriors fell to the Loris Lions 63-57. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lions 24-16 in the first quarter.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was AJ Grate, who went 8 for 17 on his way to 18 points along with six boards and four steals. Another player making a difference was Sutton Cooper, who went 7 of 16 en route to 16 points.

JACOBIEN LEWIS was a one-man wrecking crew for Loris as he dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards gave LEWIS a new career-high. JAMARIUS WILSON was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Waccamaw and nudges their season record down to 11-7. As for Loris, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waccamaw will take on Aynor at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Waccamaw is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.4 points per game this season. As for Loris, they will challenge Georgetown at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Loris knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Georgetown likes a good challenge.
