Basketball Game Preview: Vandegrift Vipers vs. McNeil Mavericks

The Vandegrift Vipers and the McNeil Mavericks will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vandegrift is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.

On Friday, Vandegrift escaped with a win against Vista Ridge by the margin of a single free throw, 47-46. Given the Vipers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Rangers are ranked 322nd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for McNeil, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 65-58 win over Stony Point on Friday.

Vandegrift's victory bumped their record up to 12-3. As for McNeil, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 11-6.

Vandegrift took their victory against McNeil when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 58-38 score. Will the Vipers repeat their success, or do the Mavericks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
