Softball Recap: Centennial Takes a Loss

Centennial suffered their closest loss since May 9, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Garces Memorial Rams by a score of 3-1. The Golden Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rams earlier this season, when they won 1-0.

Madison Cabrera spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Centennial saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lundyn Harrison, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Garces Memorial, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.

Centennial and Garces Memorial should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Golden Hawks (ranked 115th) will meet Bakersfield (ranked 516th) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Garces Memorial will square off against North at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (103 vs. 418). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rams 1.3, the Stars 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
