Baseball Game Preview: St. Augustine Saints vs. Cathedral Catholic Dons

For the second straight game, St. Augustine will face off against Cathedral Catholic. The Saints will head out to face off against the Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Augustine will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

St. Augustine's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Monday, when they got past Cathedral Catholic's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Saints put the hurt on the Dons with a sharp 10-4 victory.

St. Augustine got a great performance from Ryan Popkins as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Drake Konja was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Shane Miranda, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

St. Augustine lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April.

St. Augustine has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Cathedral Catholic, they dropped their record down to 13-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. Augustine has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cathedral Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
