Basketball Recap: Central of Clay County Falls Despite Big Games from Nariah Brock and Zy?Keria Heflin

Central of Clay County lost against Briarwood Christian last Tuesday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Central of Clay County Volunteers received a blow as they fell 50-36 to the Briarwood Christian Lions.

Central of Clay County's loss came despite strong showings from Zy?Keria Heflin and Nariah Brock. Heflin went 5 for 10 en route to 10 points and five rebounds, while Brock posted 11 points. Brock is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

Even though they lost, Central of Clay County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Leading Briarwood Christian to victory were Sasha Munikar and Emma Kerley. Munikar had 15 points, while Kerley dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Munikar a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Grace Garrett, who earned seven points and five rebounds.

Central of Clay County's record is now 14-6. As for Briarwood Christian, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central of Clay County will take on Munford at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Briarwood Christian, they will face off against Mountain Brook at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Briarwood Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
