After the first week of the season, eight new teams joined the MaxPreps regional football playoff matchups - seven of them from Southern California.

There was only one change among the teams in the Northern California portion of the regional matchups, as Elk Grove replaced defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division I champion Folsom in that division.

New teams in Southern California include Torrey Pines, Sanger, Grace Brethren, Selma, Whittier, Belmont (Los Angeles) and Horizon Christian Academy.



MaxPreps determines its regional matchup predictions based on the MaxPreps Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard. Care is also taken to avoid regional matchups between teams from the same section when possible. The team's record from last year and its preseason computer ranking are included in the preseason regional matchups.
