Baseball Game Preview: Livingston Lions vs. Hardin-Jefferson Hawks

For the second straight game, Livingston will face off against Hardin-Jefferson. The Lions will host the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Livingston has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Hardin-Jefferson will arrive with six straight victories.

Last Tuesday, Livingston came up short against Hardin-Jefferson and fell 6-1.

For Hardin-Jefferson's part, Brody Fontenot spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks. Fontenot has become a key player for the Hawks: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-10-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Hardin-Jefferson got a big performance out of Gunner Sattler, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Sattler is becoming a predictor of the Hawks' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-12-1 when he doesn't). Luke McLeod was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

Hardin-Jefferson pushed their record up to 12-12-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Livingston, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-16-2.
