Basketball Recap: Briggs Comes Up Short

Briggs played a tough contest on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Africentric Early College Nubians, falling 83-44. The Bruins were down 59-37 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mali Woods-Laws, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds. Woods-Laws has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last ten times she's played. Te'Asia Ray was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Africentric Early College's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jeniya Bowers, who posted 26 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jae'Veyonna Brown, who put up 20 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Briggs and nudges their season record down to 10-9. As for Africentric Early College, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

Briggs wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-31 win against Central Crossing on the 10th. As for Africentric Early College, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 66-25 victory against Walnut Ridge on the 10th.
