Basketball Recap: Southwest Onslow Stallions vs. East Duplin Panthers
Southwest Onslow's game on Thursday was all tied up 18-18 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 42-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Duplin Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 27-17 two weeks ago.
Despite the loss, Southwest Onslow still got an impressive performance from Oriyanna Galloway, who went 7-for-14 on her way to 18 points along with six boards and five steals. That was a full 47.4% of Southwest Onslow's points, marking the third time in a row Galloway has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Khimara Dorsey, who earned four points and 25 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Southwest Onslow smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in four consecutive games.
East Duplin found their leader in sophomore Kinsey Cave, who scored 14 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. Carrie Carr was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.
Southwest Onslow's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for East Duplin, the victory (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 22-2.
Looking ahead, Southwest Onslow will host North Lenoir at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Duplin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
