Football Recap: Germantown Skates Past Clinton with Ease

Germantown hadn't done well against Clinton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Mavericks claimed a resounding 47-17 win over the Arrows. With the Mavericks ahead 30-10 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Germantown's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nyrikius Johnson, who rushed for 190 yards and a pair of scores, and also picked up 34 receiving yards. Those 190 rushing yards gave Johnson a new career-high. Another signal caller making a difference was King White, who threw for 203 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Germantown was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 209 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 166 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Germantown is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.2 points over those games. As for Clinton, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Looking ahead, Germantown will square off against Murrah at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mavericks are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Clinton, they will challenge Madison Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
