Woodbridge and Hylton are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Vikings are taking a road trip to face off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Woodbridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Woodbridge came up short against Mountain View and fell 7-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.
Mya Foster made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Hylton never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on Massaponax with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by seven runs or more this season.
Alanis Layne made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Hylton got a massive performance out of Alexandra Newton, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jayel Williams, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Hylton has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Woodbridge, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Woodbridge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Hylton struggles in that department as they've averaged .507. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woodbridge suffered a grim 15-7 defeat to Hylton when the teams last played back in April. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
