Basketball Recap: Jefferson County Tigers vs. Piney Woods Tornadoes

After flying high against Wilkinson County last Tuesday, Jefferson County came back down to earth. The Jefferson County Tigers were dealt a 69-0 defeat at the hands of the Piney Woods Tornadoes on Tuesday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tornadoes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2021.

Piney Woods found their leader in sophomore Jayden Banyi, who went 10 for 16 en route to 28 points plus five assists and three steals. Natan Malinowski was another key player, dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.

Jefferson County's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1.

Jefferson County is taking a road trip to face off against Natchez at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Piney Woods has already played their next game, an 88-10 win against Mississippi School for the Deaf on the 14th.
