Basketball Game Preview: Avenal Buccaneers vs. Tranquillity Tigers

The Avenal Buccaneers are taking a road trip to square off against the Tranquillity Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Avenal will head into Tuesday's contest out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a 67-38 loss at the hands of Mendota. The Buccaneers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-14.

Meanwhile, Tranquillity played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 61-11 loss at the hands of Coalinga. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1346th, while the Horned Toads are ranked 590th).

Avenal's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Tranquillity, they dropped their record down to 6-15 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Avenal beat Tranquillity 45-32 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Avenal since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
