Baseball Recap: Nichols Wins Going Away Against Depew

Nichols barely beat Depew the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Big Green blew past the Wildcats 15-3 on Thursday. Considering the Big Green's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Dominic Ferlito made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those runs were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Greyson Gordon was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Venditti, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Nichols kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Depew only managed four.

Nichols moved to 7-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Depew, they dropped their record down to 3-6 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nichols will take on Southwestern at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Depew, they will face off against Lake Shore at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
