Volleyball Recap: Rockledge Falls Short of Merritt Island in the Playoffs

Rockledge and Merritt Island squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Rockledge had to settle for second. They lost 3-0 to the Mustangs. If the Raiders were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Mustangs when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Taylor Mertz paced Rockledge's offense, picking up five kills. Mertz got some help from Madison Gutke and her six assists. Mertz was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Merritt Island's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sarah Niazi, who had ten digs and three assists. That's the most assists Niazi has posted since back in September.

Rockledge's loss dropped their record down to 11-16. As for Merritt Island, the victory was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-2.

Rockledge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Merritt Island, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Satellite on the 16th.
