Softball Game Preview: Powell Panthers vs. Webb Spartans

The Powell Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Webb Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Powell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Powell proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by eight) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out William Blount 6-5.

Langston Coggins was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Coggins was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nevaeh Wells, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Emersyn Mayes, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Webb was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 11-0 to Coalfield.

Powell has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Webb, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Webb's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Powell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352.
