Basketball Preview: Odem Owls vs. George West Longhorns

Odem is 9-1 against the Longhorns since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Odem Owls will head out on the road to face off against the George West Longhorns at 6:15 p.m. Odem is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.

Last Friday, it was a hard-fought match, but Odem had to settle for a 43-41 defeat against the Tigers.

Meanwhile, George West's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight defeat. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 55-54 to Mathis.

Despite their loss, George West saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Christopher Bernal, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Bernal is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tristen Blevins, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Odem's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-17. As for George West, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-16 record this season.

Odem skirted past the Longhorns 48-45 when the teams last played last Friday. The rematch might be a little tougher for Odem since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
