Soccer Game Preview: Hayesville vs. Highlands

Hayesville is 0-10 against Highlands since April of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to face off against the Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Hayesville put up the most goals they have all season on Monday. They never let Blue Ridge Early College get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Hayesville's offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Meanwhile, Highlands came into Thursday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Cherokee on Thursday as they made off with a 4-1 victory. Gabriela Diaz Martinez had to tread lightly for part of the match after she was hit with a yellow card, but that was the only trouble Highlands got from the refs.

Highlands hit Cherokee with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Leticia Campos (2), Aislynn Wyatt-Luck, and Diaz Martinez.

The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-8-1. As for Highlands, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.

Hayesville suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Highlands when the teams last played back in March. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
