Baseball Game Preview: Leavitt Hornets vs. Erskine Academy Eagles

The Leavitt Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Erskine Academy Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Gardiner hit Leavitt with a four-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets wound up with the same score they had in their last game (12-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

Leavitt saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Marquis, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Erskine Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 14-9 to Morse. On the bright side, the nine- run performance marked the Eagles' highest-scoring game to date.

Erskine Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Leavitt, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Erskine Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Leavitt hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. It's a different story for Erskine Academy, though, as they've only averaged .231. Will they be able to contain Leavitt's hitters?

Everything went Leavitt's way against Erskine Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Leavitt made off with an 8-0 win. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
