Basketball Recap: Narragansett Falls Short Against Ranked West Warwick

On Saturday, Narragansett faced West Warwick in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Narragansett Mariners received a blow as they fell 68-54 to the West Warwick Wizards. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Mariners this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 69-52 last Friday.

Leading West Warwick to victory were Owen Stearns and Gregory Benton. Stearns went 9 for 17 en route to 24 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds, while Benton went 7 of 17 on his way to 20 points along with six assists and five boards. Stearns is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Trevone Chase, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Narragansett is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7. As for West Warwick, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3.

Narragansett has already played their next game (against Coventry), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. West Warwick will face off against Cranston East at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in West Warwick's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matchups.
