League recap: Sheldon extends winning streak with victory over Thurston

6A Southwest recap Oct. 23, 2012

Sheldon extended the longest winning streak in 6A Southwest this week by beating Thurston, 49-8. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.

Sheldon's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Taylor Alie threw for 230 and three touchdowns and Connor Strahm had 155 yards receiving. On the ground Yadie Dunmore chipped in 89 yards. Ivan Faulhaber helped Sheldon's passing attack out by catching four balls for 39 yards.

Lane Johnson's team's Alie and Strahm have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Alie has thrown for 1791 yards this season, while Strahm, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 50 catches for 642 yards. Aaron Downes from the Colts leads the league in rushing with 435 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Crater takes on South Medford. The Comets are currently in fourth, while the Panthers are in second.

The Irish led 6A Southwest in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Thurston. Alie ran for 10 yards in the win.
