West Union is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 19th straight game dating back to last season on Saturday. They came up short against Clay, falling 12-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Dragons were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Manchester had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bobcats an 11-0 shutout. The Greyhounds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by 11 runs or more this season.
Rylie Young was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Young was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Manchester got a big performance out of Addilyn Hunter, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Bristynn McClanahan, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Manchester's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for West Union, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. West Union has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Manchester struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
West Union suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Manchester in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Dragons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
