Softball Game Preview: Jasper Vikings vs. Cullman Bearcats

The Jasper Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Cullman Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jasper is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.

On Thursday, Jasper needed a bit of extra time to put away Corner. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the Yellow Jackets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted against the Yellow Jackets since April 9, 2015.

Jasper let America Montgomery and Emersyn Haney run wild. Montgomery scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5, while Haney scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Haney a new career-high in doubles (two). Lexi Kilgore was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Jasper kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Cullman lost 17-10 to Brewer on Monday. The Bearcats have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Jasper's record now sits at 17-8. As for Cullman, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Jasper skirted past Cullman 4-2 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
