Soccer Game Preview: Salem vs. Mt. Vernon

The Salem Wildcats will square off against the Mt. Vernon Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Salem is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Salem is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. They blew past DuQuoin 9-1 on Monday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded Salem with their most commanding win of the season.

Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon kept a clean sheet against Vienna/Goreville on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Eagles 1-0. Mt. Vernon's winning goal came courtesy of Lauren Mattmiller.

Salem pushed their record up to 8-11 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 16 goals over those three games. As for Mt. Vernon, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-7.
