Softball Recap: Lehi Wins High-Profile Contest Against Pleasant Grove

Lehi faced Pleasant Grove in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Pioneers put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 12-3 victory. Considering the Pioneers have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Abbi Harroun spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Piper Emery and Sophie Bliss did most of the damage at the plate: Emery went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Bliss went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Bliss is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hadlie Hansen, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Lehi was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive games.

Lehi has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Pleasant Grove, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-6.

Coming up, Lehi will be playing at home against Skyridge at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Pioneers are on a three-game streak of home wins, the Falcons a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. As for Pleasant Grove, they have already played their next matchup, a 9-6 victory against Maple Mountain on the 30th.
