Softball Game Preview: Skyline Vikings vs. Ider Hornets

The Skyline Vikings will square off against the Ider Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Skyline has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with 14 straight losses, while Ider will come in with seven straight wins.

Monday just wasn't the day for Skyline's offense. They lost 16-0 to Plainview on Monday.

Meanwhile, Ider won against Valley Head on Friday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Hornets were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Section. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Brynley Traylor was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makinley Traylor, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kahlan Greeson, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Ider hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.

Ider's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Skyline, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-22.

Everything went Skyline's way against Ider in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, as Skyline made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
