Basketball Game Preview: Unioto Shermans vs. Paint Valley Bearcats

The Unioto Shermans will face off against the Paint Valley Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Unioto has six straight wins, Paint Valley has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Unioto is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 89-27 victory over Westfall. The Shermans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matchups by 28 points or more this season.

Unioto's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Milee Smith, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine boards. Smith has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Hamilton, who went 8 of 16 en route to 23 points in addition to eight steals and seven boards.

Unioto was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Paint Valley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 53-48 to Zane Trace.

Unioto pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 36.9 points. As for Paint Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-18.

Everything came up roses for Unioto against Paint Valley in their previous matchup last Monday, as the squad secured a 57-24 win. Will Unioto repeat their success, or does Paint Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
