Baseball Recap: Chief Sealth Victorious

Chief Sealth hadn't done well against Ballard recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Seahawks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Beavers a 2-0 shutout. Surprisingly, this marked the Seahawks' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Sam Popelka tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chief Sealth's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Seth Clark, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Graham Hull also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Chief Sealth's win bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Ballard, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6.

Chief Sealth does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Ballard, they will challenge Kennedy Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Beavers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
