Baseball Game Preview: Fallston Cougars vs. John Carroll Patriots

The Fallston Cougars are taking a road trip to challenge the John Carroll Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fallston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Fallston fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Bohemia Manor on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 4-3. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Reese Conley and Tyler Conrad did some serious damage despite the final result: Conley went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double, while Conrad went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Those three hits gave Conley a new career-high. Zach Loewe also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, John Carroll came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Bulldogs 18-1. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by nine runs or more this season.

Pierce Quinn tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, John Carroll let Joey Coudon and Casey Carpenter run wild. Coudon fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-5, while Carpenter went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Dallas Brooks was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

John Carroll's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fallston, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
