Basketball Recap: Woodgrove Takes a Loss

Woodgrove saw some tournament action on Thursday. They fell 55-42 to the Atlee Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Raiders are ranked eighth).

When it comes to explaining why Woodgrove lost, don't look at Dane Marsh. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. The match was Marsh's third in a row with at least ten points. Ben Zuzcek was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Woodgrove has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Atlee, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Woodgrove will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Dominion at 7:15 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Woodgrove is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.7 points per game this season. Atlee also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Armstrong at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
