Football Recap: Laurel Takes Down Purvis in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Laurel had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 39-3 win over the Purvis Tornadoes. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Golden Tornadoes considering their seven-point performance the game before.

The victory (which was Laurel's fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-6. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 5.6 points on average over those games. As for Purvis, they dropped their record down to 6-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Laurel will challenge Stone at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tomcats' defense has only allowed 14.1 points per game this season, so the Golden Tornadoes' offense will have their work cut out for them. Purvis does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
