Softball Preview: Chapel Hill Tigers vs. East Chapel Hill Wildcats

The Chapel Hill Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the East Chapel Hill Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Friday, Chapel Hill got the win against Hillside by a conclusive 23-6. While fans of Chapel Hill might be used to big wins, the 17-run margin marked the team's biggest one yet.

Alexandra (Kes) Duncan made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Duncan has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances. Duncan was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring five runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Chapel Hill got a massive performance out of Channing Clark, who fired off three triples, five RBI, and a run while going 4-for-5. Silvia Tellez-Flores was another key contributor, going 3-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and a triple.

Meanwhile, East Chapel Hill waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Pirates as they made off with an 18-8 victory.

Like Chapel Hill, East Chapel Hill also got a great game from a two-way player: McKenna White. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. White was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Zaiah Freeman was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with a home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Lauren Steiner, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, a run, and a double.

Chapel Hill's record now sits at 8-5. As for East Chapel Hill, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.
