Preview: Spring Lions vs. MacArthur Generals

Spring is 8-2 against MacArthur since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Spring Lions will head out on the road to face off against the MacArthur Generals at 7:00 p.m. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Spring and nine for MacArthur.

Spring fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Benjamin Davis on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 57-54. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Spring in their matchups with Benjamin Davis: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the defeat, Spring got a solid performance out of Darrell Payton, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Payton pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cedric Richardson, who scored eight points along with three steals.

Meanwhile, MacArthur was the victim of a tough 65-42 loss at the hands of Dekaney on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, MacArthur can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1067th, while Dekaney is ranked 453rd).

Spring now has a losing record at 15-16. As for MacArthur, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 20 of their last 21 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-27 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Spring against MacArthur when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 68-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spring since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
