Baseball Recap: New Trier Picks Up Ninth Straight Win at Home

New Trier lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Deerfield, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's game. The Trevians were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Warriors on Thursday. The Trevians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by six runs or more this season.

New Trier got a great performance from Greg Campitelli as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Trey Meyers was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Perchik, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

New Trier was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .524. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

New Trier's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-7-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Deerfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-18 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Trier will take on Libertyville at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trevians 3.5, the Wildcats 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Deerfield, they will face off against Highland Park at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
